Hindi Utsav details and update - 4/18


Hari Om Parents!
The Hindi Test for this school year will be on 5/2 and will cover the chapters on Eklavya and Basant Rithu besides grammer on Adjectives, pronouns, and present tense.

Please practice your sentences for the Hindi Utsav.  You will have to be able to read them fluently.

Hindi Utsav is on 5/9, which is the last day of instruction for Bal Vihar.

The dress code for Hindi Utsav is any good indian dress that you have.  If girls have a ghaghra, chenia choli or South Indian Patu, please wear those.  For boys any good Indian outfit is good.

Here are the paragraphs for Sakhi and Sneha, please write them down practice and get the to class.

Sakhi

महाभारत का युद्ध कौरव और पांडव के बीच में हुआ था ।  युद्ध बहुत बड़ा था इसीलिए महाभारत का युद्ध कहलाता है ।  इस युद्ध से हमें यह सिख मिलती है की सहन करने की सीमा होती है ।  सहन करने के बाद भी कोई न समझे तो युद्ध ही कल्याण है और यह भी सिख मिलती है की युद्ध से किसी का अच्छा नहीं होता ।  इतनी जाने जाती है की हम कल्पना भी नहीं कर सकते है ।  युद्ध करने नहीं चाहिए, आपस में प्रेम और समझदारी रखना चाहिए ।

Sneha

कंस एक दुष्ट राजा था । वह कृष्ण के मामा थे ।  कंस का वद कृष्ण के हतो होना कंस के भाग्य में लिखा था ।  कंस अपने आप को बचाने के लिए कृष्ण को मरने के लिए अनेक राक्षसों को गोकुल बेजे थे, जहाँ पर कृष्ण नन्द और यशोदा के साथ रह रहे थे ।

Hindi Utsav updated list & Hindi Finals - 4/4/2015

Hari Om!

The Hindi Test for this school year will be on  4/25 and will cover the chapters on Eklavya and Basant Rithu besides grammer on Adjectives, pronouns, and present tense.

7.  Vaishnavi - what role did Krishna play in the Mahabharata war
8.  Sneha - role of Kamsa in Krishna's life and how he is related to Krishna.

11.  Rohan - Krishna's childhood

भगवान कृष्ण के माता और पिता का नाम देवीकी और वासुदेव है।  श्री कृष्ण को बड़ा  यशोदा और नन्द जी ने किया था । श्री कृष्ण का जन्म होते ही  उनकी रक्षा के लिए  यशोदा जी के पास वृंदावन में भेज दिया गया था और यशोदा जी की बेटी को उनके स्थान पर लाया था ।

Teja:
बलराम श्री कृष्ण के भाई थे । बलराम जी के और नाम है बलदेव, बलभद्र और हलयुद्धा ।
जैन धर्म  में बलराम जी को एक ढाल और तलवार दर्शाया जाता है ।

Sneha Maharana:
कंस एक दुष्ट राजा था । । वह कृष्ण जी के मामा थे और उनका नाश श्री कृष्ण के हथो होना लिखा था । राजा कंस  अपने आप को बचाने के लिए गोकुल को बहुत सरे राक्षस भेजे थे श्री कृष्ण का वद करने के लिए पर क्या कोई भगवान को मार सकता है ? 

Khushi:
श्री कृष्ण वृंदावन में रहते थे । वह कई गोपियों का दिल जीत लिए थे । गोपियाँ श्री कृष्ण के सात खेलते और नृत्य करते थे । जब श्री कृष्ण मथुरा चले गये तब गोपियाँ दुखी थे ।

Vaishnavi:
महाभारत का युद्ध कुरुक्षेत्र में हुआ था ।  यह युद्ध अठारह दिन तक चला । श्री कृष्ण अर्जुन के सारथी के रूप में पाण्डव का साथ दिए थे ।

Hindi class update 3/21/2015


Hari Om Parents!
This week we have read and understood a new hindi lesson बसंत पंचमीStudents were given meanings of the new vocabulary words, and translation for the sentences. 

Next week we will test the students on dictation and meanings based on this lesson. Please have them review the lesson thoroughly.

Following are the assignments based on the lesson:
Assignment 1 (due on 3/28):
Write each of the full sentences below. Then for each sentence, circle the विशेषण (adjective) and underline the संज्ञा (noun) it qualifies:
१. वर्ष भर में छ: ऋतुएँ होती हैं ।
२. इन दिनों मौसम बड़ा सुहावना होता है। 
३. कड़कड़ाती सर्दी कम होने लगती है। 
४. बसंत की बहार मनमोहक होती है। 
५. सूखे पत्ते झड़ जाते हैं ।
६. किसान मुस्कुराते ओठों से बसंत की अगवानी करते हैं । 
७. काली कोयल अपनी मीठी बोली से राग अलापना शुरू कर देती है। 
८. बच्चे बसंती रंग के कपडे पहनते हैं । 
९. पेड़ों पर नए-नए अंकुर फूटने लगते हैं ।

Hindi class update - MARCH 15TH 2015

Hari Om Parents!

We covered an excercise on pronouns and adjectives in class.  We also discussed the answers and had the children write them on the board.

For the next class please have them finish sentences on Krishnaastami based on the topics assigned to them.

Also have them read the chapter on Eklavya.

Hindi class update - March 7th 2015

Hindi Update 3/7/2015

Hari Om Parents!

A very Happy Holi to you all.

We covered sentence construction using adjectives.  The children have the 6 rules in the books.  Please have them read the rules and write 5 sentences describing themselves using good adjectives.

For Hindi Utsav our topic is Krishnaastami.

Please have the children write a few (atleast 2) sentences on the topic assigned to them.

Here is what is assigned to the children:

0.  Aastha - overview that we are going to be presenting on Krishnaastami and that it is celebrated as a holiday in India.

Hindi Update 3/7/2015

Hari Om Parents!


On next Saturday March 14th, we will review the attached chapter based on Spring season. Please make sure your child brings print out of this chapter to class. We give out meanings of new/difficult words as well as translations, and children are expected to take notes. Class/Homework assignment include grammar exercises based on these lessons. 

The Hindi test will include questions based on the chapters and poems we review in class.

Going forward we will provide the soft copy of the lessons and poems that we plan to review in class 1 week in advance. This gives enough time for every body to make copies and bring to class on scheduled date. We are not planning on having extra copies available in class. Please let us know in advance if for some reason your child is unable to bring the printed copy.

Hindi update 2/21/2015




Hari Om Parents!


This week we have read and understood a new hindi poem मुझे न काटो भाई. It is attached here for your reference.

Students were given meanings of the new vocabulary words, and translation for the sentences. 

We also gave following assignments based on the poem. 

Part 1:

नीचे दीये शब्दों के बहुवचन(plural form) लिखिए:
१. मेरी
२. बूटी
३. खुशी
४. दवा
५. मीठा
६. लड़का

Part 2:
नीचे दीये शब्दों से वाक्य (sentences) बनाओ :
१. ऊपर
२. खुशियां
३. जीवन
४. बदला
५. दवा

Part 3:
प्रश्नों के उत्तर लिखिए (Answer the following questions):
१. पेड़ हमें क्या क्या देते हैं?
२. हकीम क्या बनाते हैं?
३. राही कहाँ सुस्ताता है और कब?
४. क्या होगा अगर हम सब पेड़ काट दें?
५. कविता मैं १० विशेषण (adjectives) ढ़ूंढ़ो.

Students were given time in class to complete parts 1 and 2 of the assignment. We have also discussed the answers for these in class. If your child was not able to complete either/both in class, please have them complete at home.

Part 3 is expected to be completed as homework, and brought to class next Saturday for correction.

Please note that most students have not submitted the homework based on गुरुभक्त एकलव्य which we covered on January 17, 2015. We request you to please encourage your child to review the chapter, its meanings and complete the homework assignment.

Hindi level 5 update - 1/24/2015

Hari Om All,
  Hope you all enjoyed part 1 of the lecture on HInduism and its origins.  We will have the last and final lecture on HInduism next Saturday, 1/31.  WE will be meeting in room 225 at 3pm. 
  Please make sure you complete the homework on the chapter on eklavya.  YOu have another week to finish the same.

HIndi class update - 1/17/2015

We read the complete lesson on गुरुभक्त एकलव्य. We translated the sentences in English, and also reviewed/discussed meanings of new/difficult words introduced. The students were expected to write the translation on the print out. Kids enjoyed the story of Eklavya. They showed good reading and translation skills.

The lesson was longer, as a result there wasn't enough time to do any exercises based on the lesson.
For this week's homework, kids should review the story and meanings again, to answer following questions:

१. एकलव्य क्या सीखने के लिये उत्साही था?
२. एकलव्य ने गुरु द्रोणाचार्य की मूर्ति क्यों बनाई?
३. एकलव्य की कुशलता का एक उदाहरण(example) दीजिये.
४. एकलव्य में कौनसे गुण(virtues) थे? आपको कौनसा गुण सबसे अच्छा लगा और क्यों?
५. नीचे दिये हुए शब्दों के स्त्रीलिंग रूप लिखिये:
 बालक, कुत्‍ता, चाचा, पुत्र, युवक, नाना

Hindi class update - 1/10/2015

हरी ओम!
We continued with the reading test.  Couple children who did not come last week, were given the test this week.  The grade will be a cumulative grade inclusive of the reading, written test and flash cards.

Some children do not pronounce the sound of each letter correctly.  I want the non-hindi speaking students to write व्यंजन (consonants)  with their sound / pronunciation in english for example:

क (Ka), ख (Kha) ....etc all the way until ह (ha)

Homework for next week is to translate the following sentences in Hindi (exercise on pronouns):

1.  There are some boys and girls here.
2.  There are five pencils.
3.  Please give four notebooks and four pens.
4.  Please take this change.
5.  There are 2 tables here.
